Turducken - perfect with beer!

I was listening to the radio this morning and heard about the most amazing meal, Turducken! I just might have to try this for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year...with beer, of course.

Turducken is a Turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken...with layers of stuffing in between and the chicken stuffed with some sort of stuffing (I suggest sausage).

This is dads favourite song! The song is "Celery Stalks At Midnight" by the Will Bradley Orchestra.

This version was recorded on January 17, 1940 by the Will Bradley Orchestra with drummer Ray McKinley exclaiming that "Celery stalks along the highway".

McKinley was also the co-leader of the band. The tune was written and arranged by George Harris. Rumor has it that it was originally written by Raymond Scott and merely modified a bit by Harris. In the Bradley-McKinley band was Peanuts Hucko on clarinet and tenor.

Beer of the Week Formosa Springs Light

This is a nice clean smooth beer with a slightly bitter taste. I really enjoyed it, especially for a light beer. It didn't have the traditional light beer flavour (watery).

It's Friday and soon I'll be enjoying my beer of the week. I haven't yet decided what that'll be, but it's guaranteed to be cold and refreshing Last week as MGD again (sorry, that's what I had). I'll take a look in the trusty beer fridge and see what I've got tonight.

Beer of the Week - Sleeman Clear

Tonight I am enjoying a refreshing Canadian beer from Sleeman breweries (Guelph). It's called Sleeman clear and I believe it's supposed to be a low carb beer. I like it because it's easy to drink (doesn't hurt my fat old belly).

I'm having this beer to celebrate something. I was wrong, I thought that Diego Sanchez (UFC middleweight mixed martial arts fighter) was over rated. Sorry Diego, I was wrong.

Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez knocked Joe "Diesel" Riggs out in the very first round of their bout last night. Nice work Diego, now I look forward to you challenging for the title some time in 2007 (or early 2008). The only reason I put it that far down the road is that we know the UFC has to give Matt Serra a shot in February and then Matt Hughes will want another crack at St Pierre!

Back to the beer. Crisp and clean, in a clear bottle. Easy to drink and cold...can't complain about that. It has almost no after taste, in fact, almost no taste at all. True European beer lovers will not like this at all, but I do.

Take it easy and have one over the holidays for me (don't drink and drive).

137-year-old brew tastes "absolutely amazing"

London, Dec 11: A recently discovered cache of 1869 ale should have been undrinkable, but liquor and beer connoisseurs are claiming that the brew tastes "absolutely amazing".

The Victorian beer was part of a cache of 250 vintage bottles found in the vaults of Worthington's White Shield brewery in Burton-on-Trent. The bottles will not be sold and have yet to be valued.

Beer Day, Beer of the Week

Well, sorry to disappoint you folks, but this weeks beer of the week is Miller Genuine Draft. The Canadian version. I apologize to our American friends, but this is all I could get my hands on. Let me start off by saying that I had another Grolsch this week as well and it was extremely tasty. I had several MGD's however and they are down right delicious! Oh yeah, straight from Craig's beer fridge (you'll hear a lot about Craig and his beer fridge in the future).

They were cold, just above freezing. Actually, if I remember correctly one was slushy. We cleansed our pallet's between beers by drinking Frangelico shots. I found that the nutty taste mixed well with the Miller Genuine Draft (beer).

Summary: MGD Smooth, light, tasty, little after taste, doesn't hurt my big fat belly.

I don't feel like finding a picture of an MGD, so how about a classic miller lite commercial instead?

Beer Day is a tradition in the United States Navy. After 45 consecutive days out to sea the Commanding Officer can authorize two beers for each crew member over the age of 21 (18 in some commands). This is generally the only exception to the US Navy's prohibition of alcohol aboard ship.

At other events such as Steel Beach Picnics non-alcoholic brew such as O'Douls may be served, however this does not constitute a Beer Day.

Starting September 21st, 2001, ten days after 9/11, the USS Dubuque (LPD-8) spent nearly 90 days at sea before receiving authorization to hold Beer Day.

Sometimes, Beer Days are unregulated, causing sailors to become legimately inebriated. Some sailors will give their beers (or beer tickets in some commands) to other sailors who wish to consume more alcohol at sea. This has been a problem in some commands, and since 2001, commands have taken measures to regulate beer days by having sailors sign for their beer tickets, ensuring that they won't be given away.
